Overview
Material characterization means measuring exactly what a rubber is and how it behaves, how hard, how strong, how it handles heat and chemicals. It's how we confirm a material is what it's supposed to be, or figure out what an unknown sample actually is.
Physical properties
- Hardness (durometer), tensile strength, elongation, modulus
- Tear resistance and compression set
- Density and specific gravity
- Rebound, abrasion, and other application-specific properties
Thermal & aging behavior
- Heat aging and long-term property retention
- Low-temperature flexibility and brittleness
- Ozone and weathering resistance
- Thermal analysis (TGA / DSC)
Reverse engineering & deformulation
Taking an existing or competitor part and determining its composition and properties so it can be matched or improved, a common reshoring entry point.
